Memorable Highlights

History Walk: Prepare to be mesmerized by the innovative “Lifetiles” created by artist Rufus Seder that line the park’s walkways.

These remarkable installations change as you move past them, bringing Tampa’s Black history to life in a truly interactive way.

When viewed from different angles, each tile reveals different images that collectively tell the story of the community from the 1800s through the 2010s.

Musical Legacy: The towering gateway sculptures by James Simon are impossible to miss and celebrate the area’s rich musical heritage.

These colorful larger-than-life statues depict musicians and dancers in mid-performance around a jukebox, capturing the joy and energy of the neighborhood’s heyday.

This area was once a cultural mecca that hosted legendary performers like Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, and Cab Calloway – and was even the birthplace of “The Twist.”

Leaders’ Row: As you stroll through the park you’ll discover tributes to community leaders who shaped Tampa’s history.

The thoughtfully designed installations honor the contributions of influential figures in the civil rights movement and beyond.

It truly functions as an outdoor museum where Tampa’s Black history is preserved and celebrated.

Free Libraries: Book lovers will appreciate the two free library stations scattered throughout the park, allowing visitors to take or leave reading materials. These act as a tribute to continuing knowledge for future generations.

Recreation & Amenities

Splash Pad: The park features a popular water play area, especially popular among younger tykes.

It works great as a cool-off point during Tampa’s warm months.

And even though the park is free, this spot is rarely crowded. So families with young children can have fun here splashing around without the crowds of larger water parks.

Skate Park: Skaters will appreciate the dedicated skating area here, which replaced the famous “Bro Bowl” that was once a renowned American skatepark developed in the 1970s.

Sports Facilities: A basketball court provides active recreation options for visitors looking to get some exercise while enjoying the park’s atmosphere.

Event Space: The spacious open field hosts numerous community gatherings throughout the year, including the Empanada Festival, Tampa Bay Veg Fest, BBQ Love Fest, and various cultural celebrations.

Keep an eye out on the website or for flyers around the park for any future upcoming events!
