A Tiki Lover’s Paradise

The Legendary Cocktails: The Mai-Kai’s extensive drink menu remains largely unchanged from its 1950s origins, preserving the original Don the Beachcomber recipes that made it famous.

Drinks are available in three strength levels (weak, semi-strong, or very strong), making it easy to find something perfect for your taste.

The Mai Tai is potent and expertly crafted, while the Black Magic and Paniolo Old Fashioned are always great choices no matter what you pair them with.

During happy hour (3-7pm weekdays, 4-7pm weekends) at the Molokai and Bora Bora bars all drinks except the Mystery Drink are 50% off.

The Polynesian Revue: This breathtaking show is absolutely worth the small reservation fee.

Featuring authentic dances from various Polynesian cultures, the performance includes romantic numbers, cultural tributes, and heart-stopping fire dancing that will leave you mesmerized. The performers are incredibly talented, and the show provides both entertainment and education about Polynesian history and traditions.

They seat you approximately two hours before showtime, giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meal before the performance begins.

The Culinary Experience: The food at Mai-Kai is much more than an afterthought.

Standout dishes include the perfectly cooked Mahi Mahi served on coconut creamed kale with tomato salsa, the flavorful Teriyaki Beef, and the Thai Street Noodles.

For starters, don’t miss the Pupu Platter or the phyllo-wrapped garlic shrimp. And be sure to save room for dessert; the key lime pie, bread pudding, and pineapple upside-down cake are all spectacular.

An Immersive Atmosphere

Tropical Entrance: From the moment you drive over the faux bridge, you’re transported away from Fort Lauderdale into a tropical hideaway.

Tiki torches light the way, and the porte cochere has been transformed into the stunning outdoor Bora Bora bar and seating area.

The Molokai Bar: Step inside and you’ll find the famous Molokai bar, designed to feel like you’re inside an old ship.

With newly refurbished lamps and beautiful dark wood throughout, it maintains its vintage charm while feeling fresh and vibrant.

One unique feature is that you don’t see the bartenders. Drinks are ordered through servers and magically appear from behind the scenes.

The Garden Walk: Perhaps the most enchanting part of the Mai-Kai experience is the lush garden walk behind the restaurant.

Winding paths lead you through thick tropical landscaping filled with tiki statues, magical carved figures, and beautiful waterfalls. There’s even a small window where you can peek into the kitchen and see chefs cooking in traditional ovens.

Other Considerations

Pricing: Main dishes range from moderate to somewhat expensive, and the show reservation fee ($28 per person) adds to the overall cost.

However, the experience is well worth the price for everything you get. Happy hour offers significant savings on drinks if you’re on a budget too.

Parking & Arrival: Only valet parking is available at $8 per vehicle. During peak times, there may be a wait for valet service, so plan to arrive about 20-30 minutes before your reservation.

Alternatively, rideshare services work well with the new circular entryway.

Reservations: Given the Mai-Kai’s popularity, especially following its long-awaited reopening, reservations are well worth it for the restaurant and show.

Book well in advance for the best selection of seating if you can!

Bar seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Family Friendly: The Mai-Kai welcomes guests of all ages, with children particularly enjoying the fire dancing portions of the show. Kids’ meals are available, and the staff takes food allergies very seriously.

Don’t miss a visit to the gift shop either where children can meet “Tricksy” the mermaid who shares magical gems and stories.
