Signature Drinks To Try

The SJ Iced Latte: This delicious favorite features a perfect balance of smooth espresso with subtle cinnamon notes throughout.

The drink is beautifully presented, sometimes topped with dried fruit slices. Definitely a unique experience for a cafe.

Seoul Iced Coffee: Rich, sweet, and milky. This bottled signature beverage pays homage to traditional Korean coffee shops.

This could be compared to Vietnamese iced coffee but with a less dark roast profile. You can enjoy it in-house or purchase bottles to take home.

Black Sesame Latte: Don’t miss this non-coffee option that delivers a perfectly balanced nutty flavor. It’s especially popular among those who prefer alternatives to traditional coffee drinks.

Seasonal Specialties: Keep an eye out for limited-time offerings like the 꽃 (Flower) Latte that customers rave about.

The rotating seasonal menu showcases the creativity of the owners and their connection to Korean flavors.

Pour-Over Selections: Coffee connoisseurs should try their specialty pour-overs because they’re very unique.

The mango co-ferment pour-over has a lighthearted feeling (not like heavier caffeinated drinks) but with a juicy almost fruit drink or tea style flavor to it.

Delectable Treats

The Croffle: Yes, the croffle. It’s a cross between a croissant and a waffle.

This Korean coffee shop staple combines a croissant and waffle into one delicious treat.

Despite its seemingly gimmicky appearance, it delivers everything you’d expect from a great croissant: crispy exterior, soft interior, and a perfectly buttery flavor.

Korean Garlic Bread: This standout item features slices stuffed with an irresistible cream cheese butter.

Trust me, if you try these bad boys, you’ll remember them.

Korean Toast: This is a nice breakfast option if you stop here early in the morning. Simple yet satisfying.

Atmosphere & Décor

Modern Minimalism: The interior design features clean lines, a museum-like quality, and subtle Korean influences that create a zen-like environment.

The space effectively balances style with comfort.

It’s a very comfortable feeling for sure.

Lighting: The thoughtful lighting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for studying, working, or relaxing with friends. Also great for staying in if you want to eat a quick pastry here while waiting on your drink.

Limited Seating: The popularity of this spot means it’s often packed.

Weekday afternoons and most weekends can be especially busy. So if you want to get a space to eat in the cafe, try to plan to get here early or be prepared to wait to snag a table.

Pricing & Value

Coffee Quality: The prices reflect the exceptional quality of their specialty coffees. Even coffee connoisseurs agree that Haan competes with national big-name roasters.

Pastry Portions: The pastries are overall pretty good for what you pay.

The croffles are maybe a tad small, but they’re also very unique and hard to find elsewhere. So even if they’re on the smaller side I still recommend them.

Bagged Coffee: You can even purchase bags of Haan’s coffee beans to brew at home. And it’s great quality for what you get!

Other Considerations

Parking: Despite being on busy East Colonial Drive, there’s a convenient parking lot behind the café so you should be able to find some room.

Non-Dairy Options: This cafe does offer oat and almond milk alternatives for those with dietary restrictions, though some signature drinks come pre-batched with dairy.

Busy Factor: The café’s popularity means it’s frequently crowded. Hard to time the rushes but just be prepared to wait a little if there’s a small line.

Service Speed: Even when it’s busy, the staff keeps things moving.

At most it’ll be maybe 8-10 minutes waiting for a drink when it’s at its absolute busiest.

Remote Worker Haven: The comfortable environment and quiet atmosphere makes Haan a hotspot for remote workers or anyone who works digitally (including students!)

So this cafe isn’t just for coffee, it can also be a great place to hang out and get some work done.
